Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

On this page you will find answers for the questions most parents and prospective parents ask. Feel free to email us if your question/answer does not appear here (ocs@opuwo.info).

01

Which Curriculum are you using?

OCS follows the core Namibian National Curriculum in subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Word Building, etc.

As part of ACE we also have extra subjects like Bible Reading, Animal Science, Computer Studies and others that will help your child to get a well-rounded education - not just intellectually but also morally, spiritually, socially and physically,

There are ACE schools in more than 70 countries all over the world. In Namibia 25+ schools in Ongwediva, Rundu, Katima, Otjiwarongo, Windhoek, Swakopmund, Aranos and other towns are using the ACE system.

02

What does it cost to enroll my kid in OCS.

Christian education does not cost - it pays. You make a small investment for a few years that will bring returns and profit in the lives of your kids forever! They only have only one opportunity to get an education - do it right the first time.

2017 costs:

Grade 00 and grade 0 =  N$ 290/month  N$ 3480/year

Grade 1 to grade 7  =   N$ 490/month    N$ 5880/year

Computer classes= N$ 500/year

These costs should not increase with more than 10% per year - depending on the inflation rate in Namibia and the Rand/US $ exchange rate.

The same education in Windhoek will cost you around N$2000/month. We keep costs low to allow more kids to get a quality education - a generous monthly sponsorship from ABBA Guesthouse enables us to operate the school at this level.

Which grades does OCS have?

In 2016 we have grades 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

We will add a grade each year until we reach grade 7 in 2017.

We keep the size of our grade groups to less than 5 students per staff member.

Each student sits in his/her own office for most of the day as part of ACE methodology to ensure individualized education.

They do group activities each day and also take part in FutureKids computer classes.

What is the FutureKids computer program?

"Futurekids is a global leader in helping schools use technology to transform education. With more than 25 years experience, we've been a trusted and valued partner to thousands of schools all around the world." (From FutureKids website - http://www.skillspro.co.za/)

Opuwo Christian School is registered with FutureKids and use their material to teach your kids the necessary computer skills. Click on the image to the right to read more about FutureKids.

I want to enroll my kid for 2017 - how/when?

Registration starts in July 2016.

Parents whose kids are in grade 0 in OCS will be considered first for grade 1.

You need to fill in the OCS Application form (see FORMS) and pay the non-refundable application fee.

Your kid will then be evaluated and do some diagnostic tests. You will be called for an interview.

If your kid is found ready you will then fill in the OCS Registration form and pay the registration fee. Following these steps will ensure you kid's place in OCS for next year.

How can I support OCS?

* OCS has a "Sponsorhip" bank account. Anyone can contribute finances to this account (contact us for details at info@opuwochristianschool.org). Money in this account is used to help needy parents pay their kids' school fees. We either help a parent who has temporary financial problems or we pay a percentage of a student's school fees.

* You may also make a one-time donation that we can use for a specific purpose (Computers, Science kits, Library books, School Bus, Sports Equipment, New Classrooms, etc.). Contact us for banking details. People outside of Namibia/South Africa can make use of our PayPal account.

* We also welcome volunteers - short or long term. Come help with academics, sport, computers, preschool, etc.

* Most of all we need your PRAYER support. Contact Pieter de Villiers (ehc@iway.na) for specific prayer & praise points.
